Vitamin C skincare products are excellent for use the whole year round, but it’s a must have for your skincare arsenal during the summer. Skin tends to develop more “dark spots” (photoaging) under stronger summer sunlight, as well as the appearance of lines and wrinkles. The aging process is influenced by individual genetic factors and environmental stressors that can accelerate skin damage through the effects of free radical toxins (“loose cannon” unstable molecules that are missing an electron and are on the hunt to steal one from stable molecules.)
Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant that supports healthier-looking skin and helps neutralize free radicals to help prevent visible skin damage. Unfortunately, our bodies don’t naturally produce vitamin C so vitamin C supplements and/or vitamin C rich foods and topical vitamin c care is necessary to maximize benefits.
Vitamin C is an effective antioxidant which defends against the effects of pollution, other environmental stressors, and sun exposure. It also promotes collagen and elastin synthesis and specifically inhibits melanin to reduce the appearance of uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C contains brightening properties to reduce the appearance of dull skin and loss of radiance.
What are the benefits of using vitamin C products?
· Brightening and evening skin tone
· Reduction in appearance of lines and wrinkles
· Protection from the effects of photodamage. Vitamin C is the second line of defense against harmful UVA rays while also helping to boost skin’s antioxidant defenses.
Is vitamin C skincare suitable for all skin types, including sensitive? Vitamin C formulations are generally suitable for all skin types. However, all formulations vary and if the skin is very sensitive (prone to redness, irritation or rosacea), it’s recommended to do a patch test first and start off gently. You may experience a mild warm or tingling sensation on application, which is the active ingredient, so do check that the product you choose indicates if it is recommended for sensitive skin conditions.
When should I use vitamin C skincare products? Most vitamin C formulas can be used twice a day. This will depend on if you are using vitamin c in combination with retinol (night only). Always use sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher during the day for protection against harmful UVA/UVB rays. Our Advanced Vitamin C Moisturizer can be used morning and evening.
