Skindependence: 4 Tips for Taking Care of Your Skin This July 4th Weekend

This Fourth of July, you might think you have everything already covered – but does that include your skincare? If you’re planning on any kind of 4th festivities or taking a quick trip somewhere, here’s our friendly reminder to make sure you’re still taking care of your skin. Sun, heat, alcohol, chlorine, salt water – they all take their toll on your beautiful skin. No worries though, we’ve got a few skincare tips to help you you’re your sparkle through the 4th and all summer long.

Cleanse: This should be obvious but it can’t be overemphasized. Cleansing in the morning is important. Especially during the summer months, and even in air conditioning, perspiration can occur. Your face is pressed into the pillow, where sweat and oils may accumulate. Evening cleanse is mandatory to remove the day’s environmental pollutants, makeup, SPF, and excess oils. Try a double cleanse (lotion or cream cleanser first, then cleanse again with a gentle exfoliating cleanser) to really give your skin that clean slate effect before you apply your serum and moisturizer.

Hydrate: Hydration is always key, and it’s as important or more during the height of summer, especially because sometimes we convince ourselves we can skip moisturizing in summer. Try a lighter weight moisturizer if your regular feels too heavy (Marine Hydration Crème or Lemon Gel Crème are great alternatives – suitable for all skin types). And beat the heat with a spritz of facial mist – like our Citrus Freshener. Use it throughout the day to cool off and hydrate your skin.

Euro tip: Put the mist in the cooler and apply it anytime your skin feels dry and overheated.

Be sure to drink plenty of water! Tip: Eating watery foods (like watermelon, cucumbers, and grapes) can help with hydration.

Protect: This is the single most important thing you can do. Most signs of aging are caused by sun damage. Sun protection is an absolute must – even on cloudy days. Many of us spend the 4th outdoors. So protect your beautiful self from photo damage and apply sunscreen diligently throughout the day (approximately every two hours, more if you’re swimming). Our Raw Elements Face & Body and Tinted Moisturizer Sunscreens are mineral based and reef safe to protect and hydrate. Further protect your skin by keeping it covered whenever possible – sunglasses and a hat to protect your eyes and your face. And take breaks when you can to avoid sun overexposure (even if you are wearing sunscreen).

Remove: This is basically a repeat of Tip #1, but it’s important. At the end of your day, make sure you thoroughly remove all of your makeup and SPF. This is where the double cleanse routine can really help remove those layers of makeup, SPF, sweat, and dirt.

From all of us at the Euro Institute - Have a happy and safe July 4th holiday!
