With Halloween top of mind this month, we’re thinking about masks too – but not just the costume kind. We’re talking about masks that don’t trick – they treat – in the form of hydrating, soothing, exfoliating, brightening, and refining. Masks are a skincare go to any time of year to help you love the skin you’re in. Here are a few of our favorites (renamed for the season!) to help you avoid scary skin issues and bewitch your complexion from beastly to boootiful!
Deep Cleansing Mask–aka Return of the Mud Creature: Moor Mud Mask
Heilmoor clay is the foundation ingredient for this detoxifying mask which helps not only remove toxins and impurities from the skin but nourishes with revitalizing minerals. It deeply purifies, refines pores and helps re-establish the skin’s natural pH. Reduces the appearance of surface lines and wrinkles.
Use: Mix 1 tsp. of mask with a few drops of water to make a smooth paste. Apply directly to face and neck, leave on for 10 minutes. Remove with tepid water (thoroughly) and apply serum and/or moisturizer.
Exfoliate & tone-aka Jack’s Pumpkin Power: Pumpkin Enzyme Mask
Pumpkin is loaded with nutrient rich ingredients – vitamins, amino acids, live enzymes, vitamin A, C, and zinc to name a few. Our enzyme mask gently exfoliates the skin to improve the appearance of fine lines, age spots, and rough, uneven skin texture. It helps minimize pore size and other skin imperfections while stimulating the production of new and healthy skin cells. It’s agreeable for most skin types and conditions, except very sensitive.
Use: Apply over cleansed skin, avoiding eye area. Allow to remain on the skin for up to 10 minutes (for dry, mature, and sensitive skin), or up to 15 minutes (for oily and problem skin). Remove with warm water. Use once or twice weekly.
Skin Recovery Radiance-aka The Green Ghoul Mask: Moor Multi-Fruit Mask
This hydrating and refreshing gel face mask with nutrient-rich Austrian Moor and blue-green algae moisturizes, nourishes, and protects, with properties of aloe vera, mamaku fern and natural astaxanthin. Ghoulishly effective, the natural ingredients promote cell turnover, firms, tones, and evens skin texture. Great for all skin types.
Use: Apply a thin layer to face, neck, décolleté and allow to sit for up to 30 minutes. Remove with warm water, or a warm compress. Apply appropriate serum and/or moisturizer.
Smooth & Soothe-aka the Gel Ooze Mask: Cucumber Anti-Couperose Mask
This cool gel mask is recommended as a calming and soothing treatment for all skin types, particularly for Couperose and sensitive skins. The natural synergy of herbal extracts provides an anti-irritant effect and helps to reduce the dawn of the dreaded redness and inflammation. It contains allantoin which is incredibly healing – it helps stimulate new cell growth and has soothing, moisturizing, softening and regenerating properties. It’s especially appropriate for redness prone sensitive and for those “invasion of the breakouts” skin conditions.
Use: Apply a layer to face and neck. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Remove with tepid water and follow with serum and/or moisturizer. May be used twice weekly.
Covers it all sheet masks-aka creeping it real: Age-Defying, Brightening, Calming Sheet Masks
Age-Defying: Infuses the skin with powerful ingredients – hyaluronic acid, collagen and niacinamide to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Hydrates and helps protect the skin barrier. Antioxidants help mitigate existing skin damage and protect the epidermis from more oxidative damage from free radicals and environmental stressors – like the deadly UV ray from outer space and the smog monsters.
Brightening & Hydrating: Helps improve uneven skin tone & improves skin clarity, leaves the complexion with a radiant tone. Ingredients like panax ginseng and morus alba bark work synergistically to lighten the appearance of sun damage and hyperpigmentation and brighten the overall look of the skin. These powerful plant-derived ingredients contain high concentrations of phytonutrients that can assist with the effects of sun damage such as fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots, dehydration, and collagen degradation.
Calming: A mask to reduce the appearance of redness, irritation and other couperose skin conditions. Soothing plant extracts are combined with antioxidants to combat signs of irritated or “angry” skin. Hyaluronic acid provides hydration and allantoin promotes a healthy barrier.
Use: On clean skin, apply the mask by pressing evenly along the face contours. Allow mask to remain in place for 20 minutes. Peel off and massage any remaining product into the skin. Follow with appropriate moisturizer and sunscreen during the day.
