This Valentine's Day Treat Your Skin to a New Routine

Cleanser. Toner. Serum. Moisturizer. Sunscreen. Those are just a few of the products you may have in your skincare arsenal. But are you happy with the results you’re getting? Skincare is not one-size-fits-all. Choosing the right products for your routine takes time and experimentation. Your skin is always changing, and what rocks today may be “meh” tomorrow – depending on many factors including seasonal changes, dietary habits, stress, lack of sleep, or illness.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner. Why not give yourself some love with a gift of something new for your skin? Add or switch up your serum. Add an eye cream or gel. Start using a facial mask once a week. To help streamline your choices, we’ve created sample skin-care routines for different skin conditions. Read on for a few recommendations.

Do You Have Dry (or Mature) Skin?

For dry, sensitive, or mature skin conditions, choosing soothing, hydrating, and moisturizing products is the way to go for daily skin-care maintenance. Avoid products that are drying - alcohols, astringent toners, and irritating ingredients like fragrance and silicone. Look for results oriented ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides.

STEP 1: Moor Lavender Cleanser (or Euro Botanicals Green Tea Cleanser for sensitive)

This creamy rich cleanser contains Austrian Moor, a purifying and detoxifying mineral mud found in nature. It helps clear the skin of impurities while gently cleansing without stripping. EB Green Tea Cleanser is a gentle lotion-based formula for skin which is prone to redness or sensitivity and is a good choice for most skin types. It’s non-comedogenic and non-irritating.

We recommend the gentle hydration of Aloe Rose (with hyaluronic acid which helps bind moisture to the skin) to get you started. Aloe Vera has both soothing and hydrating properties that will help set the moisture stage for after you cleanse. Marine Toner contains the healing properties of marine algae to tone, refresh and hydrate. Using a toner will also remove any residue left behind during cleansing and prep your skin’s pH for serum and moisturizer application.

A must for all skin types, hyaluronic acid is produced naturally in our bodies and declines as we age. It boots the skin’s ability to retain moisture and should be applied before any other serums. Start with this one and target other serums for specific concerns. (Visit our Serums page for more ideas.)

· Hydro Collagen Serum: Helps skin maintain elasticity, smoothness, and firmness.

· Renewal Serum: Deeply hydrating rich formula for skin hydration.

· Evening Primrose Oil: Lightweight fast absorbing anti-inflammatory with Omega 6’s. Excellent for rashes and dermatitis.

· Vitamin C Serum: Brightening properties, antioxidant protection.

· Marine Silk Serum: Lightweight, marine silk extracts stimulate collagen synthesis.

STEP 4: Euro Botanicals Super Emollient or Advanced Moisture Crème (Vitamin A Crème for fine lines)

Both moisturizers are plant based, fragrance and paraben and phthalate free with long-term benefits for deep hydration due to ingredients like peptides and shea butter. Non-greasy texture and perfect for morning and night.

Is Your Skin Oily?

You’ll want to opt for lighter weight formulas like gel or lotion moisturizers, exfoliating cleansers and serums to combat breakouts.

Gentle cleansing and exfoliation are important for oily skin to keep pores clean of surface debris. It removes traces of makeup, dirt and dead surface skin cells that can clog pores. Gentle exfoliation is essential for every skin type but is especially beneficial in keeping pores clear for oily and blemish prone individuals.

The ingredient boswellia, is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and healing to help reduce p.acnes bacteria without overly stripping the skin of natural oils.

With salicylic and hyaluronic acid this toner helps control oil production, clarify pores and mattify skin but gentle enough to not strip skin of essential oils and nutrients. Leaves skin feeling refreshed, toned, and clean.

Multi-Fruit is an oil free gel containing nourishing extracts of mangosteen and astaxanthin to help reduce inflammation and balance skin hydration. Herbal Complex Serum with witch hazel, horsetail extract to minimize and tighten pores, and antibacterial clove oil makes this a must have for oily or blemish prone skin. Vitamin A is still an industry standard for targeting breakouts as well as fine lines and wrinkles. Our plant-based retinol serum is gentle and less irritating when used regularly.

These moisturizers are lightweight and fast absorbing, so they won’t fan the flames of oil production. Marine minerals help protect and balance your skin and strengthen its barrier. Herbal Complex Crème addresses pore size with horsetail extract (tightens pores), and turmeric to reduce inflammation. A 24-hour moisturizer with jojoba oil (excellent for oily skin) and Vitamin E.

Is Your Skin A Combination?

For those with combination skin, creating an effective skin-care routine can be a bit of a puzzle. With dry and oily areas (typically, the “T” zone on the face – oily forehead, nose and chin with cheeks tending to be drier) the trick is to find products that work without being too harsh or heavy. Look for non-irritating and gentle formulas. For daily skincare, keep things relatively lightweight, but with concentrated, results-driven ingredients.

This cleanser is gentle, making it a great choice for combination skin. It cleanses impurities without over-drying or irritating the skin.

Either of these gentle toners (both contain hyaluronic acid for moisture retention properties), will help your skin stay balanced throughout the day, and prep the skin for other treatments.

Hydro Collagen Serum is appropriate for most skin types since it is lightweight while hydrating and binding moisture to the skin with hyaluronic acid and hydrolyzed collagen. Silk amino acids are proteins with humectant (binds moisture) properties. Multi-Fruit Hydration Gel is another good choice (described above). Our plant-based Vitamin C Serum also contains geranium extract which facilitates cell regeneration and is antibacterial.

Super lightweight with spirulina and Irish moss (algaes) which contains antioxidant properties, and panthenol (Vitamin B5), a humectant, this moisturizer is perfect for combination skin. With over 90 marine minerals which are antibacterial and help strengthen the skin’s barrier and improve texture.

And don't forget the sunscreen! We proudly feature Raw Elements physical sunscreen - which does not contain oxybenzone, a synthetic estrogen that penetrates the skin and can disrupt the hormone system. (found in many chemical sunscreens). And it’s available in an easy-to-use pump, original tin, and a Face & Body formula.
